Data Analysis for Flexible & Inclusive Education

In today’s rapidly changing educational landscape, schools in the flexible learning sector face unique challenges and opportunities.

The peak body for flexible and inclusive education (AAFIE) and data analytics firm Latitude Network are partnering to build a Data Collaboration project to help you use your data to enhance student outcomes, tailor educational experiences and foster a more inclusive learning environment.

What is a
Data
Collaboration?

A data collaboration is a powerful approach that enables schools and organisations to analyse data across the education sector.

This collaboration offers your school valuable insights into student outcomes and program effectiveness, helping you understand your impact. With Latitude Network as an independent data custodian, managing data aggregation, privacy and analysis, schools can trust that their information is handled securely and responsibly.

By looking across many schools in the flexible learning sector, data collaboration can uncover trends and patterns that are crucial for adapting to students' unique needs. You can compare your school with other Flexi schools for deeper understanding and learning.

By participating in this initiative, schools can work together to enhance educational programs, improve student wellbeing and create a more supportive learning environment. Latitude Network specialises in facilitating and managing these complex collaborations, ensuring schools receive actionable insights to drive positive change.

Why collaborate?

By joining forces with other schools and Latitude Network, you’ll be part of a community committed to sharing knowledge, best practices and innovative solutions.

01

Enhanced Student Support

Use data to identify and address the unique needs of your students, ensuring that every learner receives the support they need to thrive.

03

Benchmark against other Flexi schools

Leverage data to customise educational programs, catering to the diverse learning styles and preferences of your students.

02

Improved Decision-Making

Make informed decisions based on recent data analysis, helping you allocate resources effectively and plan strategically for the future.

04

Collaborate on deeper analysis - answer the big questions

Collaborate with other schools to see sector-wide patterns, identify successful strategies and adopt best practices for student success.

Gain Insights Through
Comparative Data and Benchmarking

Understanding how your school compares to others in the flexible learning sector is crucial for identifying strengths and areas for improvement.

By collaborating in a data project, you can benchmark your school's demographic mix and performance against other schools, providing a powerful tool for evaluating success and identifying unmet needs.

With this comparative data, you can better understand your school's position within the sector, allowing you to investigate potential barriers and address areas where expectations aren't being met. This collaboration enables you to focus on areas that need attention and develop strategies to better represent and support your student body.

Practical
Solutions

Below are some examples of how data and dashboards from the DAFFIE project can drive positive change in educational settings.

Checking Student Engagement and Satisfaction

  • Problem: How satisfied are students with the course? How engaged are they?

  • How Data Helped: (Dale to review examples and amend where required) Student satisfaction surveys pinpointed issues with course relevancy and engagement.

  • Solution: Revised curriculum, which boosted student satisfaction and engagement.

Understanding Student Learning

  • Problem: Visual learners struggled with traditional teaching methods.

  • How Data Helped: Data from surveys and academic records highlighted the issue.

  • Solution: Implemented visual and interactive learning materials, resulting in increased engagement and success for visual learners.

Supporting Underserved Populations

  • Problem: Are there some people who have barriers to accessing our services? Are we meeting our diversity goals for serving the population?

  • How Data Helped: Analysis of data (Dale, can you give specifics here) identified barriers like lack of access and academic support.

  • Solution: (Dale to add info) leading to improved performance and engagement.

How it Works

1

Sign up to participate

You contract with Latitude Network to analyse your data (like any data analyst), but we also do this for your peer organisations to provide better whole-of-sector views. You make governance decisions and only provide data you agree to.

2

Agree the metrics & upload data

3

Secure data warehouse & data processing

All data is de-identified and processed to enable analysis.

Data is fully owned by you - Latitude Network processes and analyses it on your behalf.

It's stored in Microsoft secure servers with robust security measures with row-level access controls. We take care of all the back-end.

4

Receive and use interactive dashboards

You get log-in access to your school's dashboard with all your own data to explore.

No other school sees your individual data.

We aggregate data up to produce high level overview of the whole sector to support advocacy and 'big picture' analysis.

Ways we could use the data

  • Benchmark your school vs other similar schools - e.g. compare diversity or needs metrics vs average

  • Monitor progress against key outcomes targets

  • Identify students or groups that need attention -

  • Predict disengagement

  • Compare your students on needs tools eg SDQ against similar schools

  • Analyse drivers of outcomes or engagement (what factors relate to high or low outcome groups) - across not just your data but all flexi schools

  • Understand more nuanced segments in the student body - to better tailor supports, services

  • See the 'whole sector' data - e.g. numbers of flexi students by region, school type

What kind of data can we analyse?

  • student demographics / diversity measures

  • needs assessments e.g NCCD

  • attendance, subjects and completions

  • skills assessments

  • services / additional supports

  • health and social outcomes

  • needs / progress e.g. SDQ, K10, others

  • student feedback / satisfaction

  • other relevant data - decided with your peers what else is useful
